I'm Kendra

Heart to Hearth is about my journey towards Holistic Homemaking. Somewhere along the way, homemaking skills got lost in education systems and schedules of moms who worked full time. I knew the basics when I left for college (how to do my laundry, how to keep my room/dorm clean, and minimal cooking skills) but once I started a family, there was so much that I didn't know. My husband was in the same boat. Tasks were assumed based on how each of us had been raised and it took some time to figure what worked best for us and that changed as jobs changed and as babies were born.

What is Holistic Homemaking?

Holistic homemaking is the phrase I use for caring for the people, animals, and physical settings of a home in a way that recognizes the connectedness between spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and creative needs. It is an approach borne out of my training and work in early childhood education where I took all these types of needs into consideration when working with children and families. Yes, our homes need to be kept clean and in good repair, but what message about our family does our home give when people visit. Is it a cluttered nightmare that gets hidden when guests arrive? Or is it a calm, nurturing place where guest feel welcomed? When envisioning the kind of home we wanted when we first getting married, said that I wanted the kind of home that looked like it would smell like fresh baked bread and have lots of cozy place to curl up with book.

What will you find here?

Here at Heart to Hearth, you will find a posts about raising babies, cooking, recipes, getting out in nature, teaching children about faith, self-care, and resources that have aided me in my own journey.

Until next time, have a blessed day.
